Our Vision for the Future

While we'd love to match the size and selection that Joann's once offered, our journey starts small, focusing on what we do best: sharing our love of crafting through inspiring classes, a creative space, and quality supplies.

Our vision is to create a space where crafters of all levels can come together to learn, create, and share. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, we want to provide the tools, materials, and support you need to bring your ideas to life. We're here to help you explore new techniques, discover new passions, and connect with fellow crafters.

The Right Tools for the Job

One thing is for sure—no one should have to cut patterns on the floor! While I've never personally had the luxury of a dedicated cutting island, that's about to change. We're making it happen with a sturdy, full-size island for cutting out patterns. No flimsy tables here—just a space designed to make crafting comfortable and enjoyable for everyone. Goodbye, floor cutting!

The Space You Need

Totes for your stuff.

We understand the need for a space to organize and store your projects. That's why we'll offer monthly rental boxes where you can safely leave your materials. No room for your sewing machine at home? We've got you covered with dedicated spaces for crafting. Want to test out the latest sewing and crafting tools? So do we! Our future plan includes making these tools available for members to try before investing in their own. It's all about exploring, experimenting, and unlocking your creativity.

Who Am I?

Marnie, the owner of Winter Solstice Sewing & Crafts.

Hi, I'm Marnie! Originally hailing from Maine, I made my way to Alaska 24 years ago and never looked back. I'm a proud mom to an amazing son and a lifelong enthusiast of sewing and crafting. My journey has been filled with needles, threads, and fabrics—and a big dream to share my passion with fellow creators.

When Joann's announced its closure, I knew Alaska's crafting community needed a hands-on haven to find supplies and nurture creativity. After over a year of planning, my vision for a dedicated crafting store in Anchorage is finally taking shape. The timeline is set, and I'm determined to make it a reality!

Crafting has been my lifelong passion, from intricate cross-stitching to elaborate quilts. Living in Alaska, I know how challenging it can be to find the right materials, but that hasn't stopped me! My goal is to empower crafters across Alaska with everything they need to bring their creations to life.

Winter Solstice Sewing & Crafts is more than a store—it's a community. A place where crafters can gather, learn, and share their love of creating. I can't wait to welcome you to our space and help you discover the joy of crafting!
